With winter (hopefully) on its way out, I’m working on my first spring window murals of the year. I love the versatility of spring. There are so many themes to embrace as a window artist… the thing they all have in common is a sense of hope and renewal.
I’m sharing a few of the themes I’ve been talking about with my clients, in case you’re looking for inspiration for your spring window displays.
Botanical and floral window art
My favourite thing about spring is seeing the world brighten up with little shoots of colour as the flowers bloom. A floral window display is a great way to tap into that mood: you can go bold, embrace a bit of colour and create something eye-catching that is likely to have broad appeal. Birds, bees and butterflies can also be a lovely way to build on the nature theme.
This will hit the right notes for some of the big seasonal moments too, such as Mother’s Day and Easter. While it’s a seasonal theme, it’s not tied to a specific date so a floral window design could last you through to the summer months.
This one’s for you if: you want your windows to have broad appeal without being time-bound to a specific date.
Added bonus: choosing a broad theme like this allows you to keep the display going for a few months.

Foodie window ideas for spring
Longer days and warmer weather get people thinking about spending time outside. It’s a great opportunity to tap into that feeling of optimism with food and drink imagery that conjure up ideas of picnics, al fresco lunch dates, glasses of wine in the garden.
How you interpret this depends entirely on your business and the story you want to tell. You could highlight specific products, such as this bottle of rosé I painted for a food and wine store, or you might want to highlight the seasonal ingredients that will feature on your menu or are available in your store.
This one’s for you if: you are a food and drink business looking to ring the changes of the new season and draw attention to your new spring menu or seasonal produce.

Easter window art that STANDS OUT
The triple threat of a double bank holiday, kids being off school and the unofficial end of winter makes Easter a pretty big deal. It’s a time when people are more likely to be meeting, eating and spending. If you want a piece of the action, it’s well worth investing in an Easter-themed window that tells shoppers why they should step inside your business.
Most businesses will go for some kind of variation on the classic Easter theme: think bunnies, colourful eggs and fluffy chicks. To be honest, this is what works and there’s no need to stray too far from what people are expecting and want to see.
The benefit of working with a window artist is that they can help make a popular seasonal theme feel more personal to your business. Here are some tactics I use to achieve this:
Including a hand-lettered message – this could be a fun play on words, relevant to your business.
Incorporating your brand colours and making sure it feels aligned with your wider Easter campaign.
Working in some visual references to your business e.g. if you are a bakery, I might include some illustrations of your delicious baked goodies into the design.
This one’s for you if: you want people to shop with you for their Easter needs: whether it’s for homewares, chocolate treats, gifts or food.
Top tip: As an Easter design will have a limited shelf-life, I’d recommend getting your window art booked in at least 3 weeks before Easter to get the most out of your investment.

a window mural CELEBRATING all that spring has to offer
Alongside Easter, there are plenty of smaller landmark dates that you might want to recognise in your business. A few examples include World Book Day, International Women’s Day, Mother’s Day, Earth Day… the list goes on. But let’s be real, most businesses aren’t going to shell out for a new window for each event.
Faced with this challenge, one of my regular clients – a toyshop - recently commissioned me to create a window display that connects with their target audience (children and their parents) and tells the story of what’s happening in store this spring.
I created a narrative scene featuring the kind of woodland creatures you’d find in picture books enjoying some of the products that the shop sells and linking them to key spring moments and activities for kids, such as world book day, outdoor play, gardening, and so on.
This one’s for you if: you want to highlight multiple products or benefits into one simple narrative.
